Louisville took a 4-1 defeat in its final match of the fall.
NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Wrapping up the 2020 fall season, the University of Louisville men's soccer team took a 4-1 loss at Notre Dame on Friday night.
The Cardinals close out the fall portion of the schedule at 1-6-1 overall and 1-4-1 in ACC play.
Notre Dame (4-3-0, 3-2-0 ACC) got off to a quick start on Friday evening, drawing a foul in the box in the ninth minute and the ensuing penalty kick was converted by Jack Lynn to put the Irish in front.
Lynn struck again in the 25th minute, netting his second goal of the match and found a third less than eight minutes later. The Cardinals were outshot 9-4 in the opening 45 minutes and took a 3-0 deficit into the halftime break.
Louisville was much improved in the second half, getting multiple opportunities in the first 15 minutes. After giving up a penalty kick in the first half, the Cardinals had a chance at their own in the 58th minute, but a diving save kept Pedro Fonseca's attempt out of the net.
The Cardinals finally broke through in the 68th minute. Bradley Sample lofted a ball into the center of the box that was played down by Bryce LeBel. LeBel's pass put Haji Abdikadir in great position just outside the six-yard box and the junior buried his first goal of the season.
Notre Dame answered back quickly however, getting its fourth and final tally of the night four minutes later to put the finishing touches on the match.
UofL led the Irish 8-4 in shots during the second half, but was narrowly outshot 13-12 on the night.
