Sawyer Wins ITA Fall Classic

Sawyer ran through her draw flawlessly at Georgia Gwinett

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- University of Louisville tennis player Chelsea Sawyer won the ITA Fall Classic at Georgia Gwinett this weekend.

In the early rounds, she beat Agda Laasko 6-0, 6-0 before beating Sasha Hartje 6-1, 6-2.

In the quarterfinals, she beat Taylor Dean 6-2, 6-2 to advance to the semi-finals where she beat Sofia Pinedo 6-4, 6-4.

The finals saw her have to dig deep to beat Sydney Flesch winning 7-6 (7), 7-5 (5) to take home the trophy.

The ITA has a strict protocol for singles. Players must socially distance when off the court, no hand-shaking after matches. Between points they must used their racket/foot to pick up balls and hit to opponent. They must use hand sanitizer before, during and after play and use their own towels and water bottles as well as clean and wipe down their equipment after play. They are limited to two family members per participant and must leave site after their match.
