Cardinals Wrap Up Regular Season at Blazer Classic

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville women's cross country team will wrap up the 2020 regular season with a trip to Hoover, Ala., to compete in the UAB Blazer Classic on October 16.
The Cardinals will compete in Friday's Gold Division against a field that includes:, Arkansas State, Auburn, Clemson, FAU, Lee, South Alabama, Southern Miss, South Carolina and UAB. The 6K race is slated to start at 9:50 a.m. (ET).
"This will be a nice opportunity for our women to contest our first 6K race of the season," said head coach Dale Cowper. "The group's workouts have been progressing well since the Live in Lou competition two weeks ago at Tom Sawyer Park. We expect to see a strong push from Purity, Bailey and Ivine in our front three this weekend."
Two weeks ago, the Cardinals had three finishers among the top 30 en route to a fifth-place showing at the Live in Lou Classic. Redshirt junior Purity Sanga clocked in a personal-best time of 16:54.8 to finish third while senior Bailey Beery registered a time of 17:32.6 to place 19th. Junior Ivine Chemutai crossed the line at No. 26 (17:40).
In the season-opening Irish Classic on September 19, Beery posted a seventh-place finish with a time of 17:16.07 while Sanga followed in eighth place, clocking in at 17:22.02.
Following Friday's action, the Cardinals will prepare for the 2020 ACC Cross Country Championship which will take place Oct. 30 in Cary, N.C.
