September 30, 2019 | Men's Soccer
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - It's been 40 years since the first University of Louisville men's soccer team stepped out onto the pitch for the Cardinals. Since then, hundreds of student-athletes have come through the program, but this past weekend surrounding UofL's match against NC State, many of those alumni returned to campus to celebrate the 40th anniversary.
Â
An alumni tailgate at Lynn Stadium kicked off the weekend's festivities prior to the Cardinals taking on the Wolfpack. Those alumni on hand were recognized during halftime of the game. Included in the halftime recognition was all four of the previous Louisville men's soccer head coaches: Claudio Maldonado, (1979-92); Victor Petroni, (1993-95); Tony Colavecchia, (1996-2005); and Ken Lolla, (2006-2018).
 Â
The weekend continued on Saturday as alumni were given a private tour of Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium. The alums took in all ofn the features of the Lynn Stadium complex including a tour of the offices, locker room space, as well as the field.
Â
The festivities wrapped up with an alumni banquet at the UClub to honor the 40 seasons of Louisville men's soccer. Former Cardinal, and current alumni president, Dan Kessler was the MC for the evening. Coach Maldonado and coach Colavecchia were in attendance and spoke of their time at UofL.
