September 23, 2019 | Men's Soccer
The senior midfielder scored a pair of goals in a win over #17 Virginia Tech
GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Atlantic Coast Conference announced Monday, September 23, that University of Louisville men's soccer senior midfielder Cherif Dieye has been named the ACC Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week.
Â
Dieye earns his first ACC Player of the week honor after scoring a pair of goals in an upset win over No. 17 Virginia Tech Friday night (Sept. 20). It was Dieye's first multi-goal game of his career, as both goals came in the final eight minutes of the game. He is the first Cardinal to earn the ACC Offensive Player of the Week award since Tim Kubel on Sept. 5, 2017.
Â
With the Cardinals trailing 1-0, Dieye scored the equalizer in the 82nd minute. After a long pass from Louka Masset, Dieye snuck past a Hokie defender and fired a shot into the upper right corner of the far post.
Â
Less than four minutes later, Dieye found the back of the net again in what proved to be the game-winner in the 85th minute. His fourth goal of the season came on a shot inside the left post from about 30 yard out.
Â
Louisville returns to action at Lynn Stadium tomorrow night, Sept. 24, for a non-conference matchup against No. 3 Georgetown. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
