September 14, 2019 | Cross Country
The Louisville men finish third while the women finish 11th
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville men's and women's cross country teams kicked off the season with impressive finishes at the Commodore Classic on Saturday morning. The men had three finishers in the Top 10 to lift the Cards to a third place finish. The women had three finishers in the Top 30 to lead them to an 11th place finish.
"We're excited about the effort both squads put forward today. Each race was loaded with top caliber teams with several different regions represented," said head coach Dale Cowper. "The Vanderbilt staff once again put on a first class event and Mother Nature cooperated with terrific race conditions this morning. Each squad showed that we will have a very talented pack in contention up front as the season progresses. Coach Walker and Coach Wrieden have them priming for the championship races later this fall and the group is showing a great willingness to work together. It's exciting to see this type of synergy building as it will lead to tremendous team and individual results as the season progresses."
Sophomore Emmanuel Cheboson led the Cards with a fourth place finish. He finished the 8K with a time of 24:27.4. Freshman Isaac Kiprop finished seventh with a time of 24:36.1. Junior Albert Kosgei also placed in the top-10, finishing eighth with a time of 24:38.8. Junior Cameron Stephens finished 43rd at 25:34.0, while freshman Shadrack Kipkosgei and junior Ben Ewert rounded out the Cardinals' scoring. In the overall tally, the Cards placed third with 105 points, Middle Tennessee took first with 52 points.
