Louisville Enters Season No. 14 in United Soccer Coaches Preseason Poll

Seven UofL opponents are ranked in the preseason poll, four others received votes
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The University of Louisville men's soccer team will open the 2019 season ranked among the top squads in the nation as the Cardinals enter the season at No. 14 in the United Soccer Coaches preseason poll released Tuesday, August 6.

Louisville was among seven Atlantic Coast Conference teams in this year's preseason top-25, with every team landing within the top-16. The Cardinals finished the 2018 season ranked 16th in the United Soccer Coaches with an 11-5-3 record.

The Cards enter the season under first-year head coach John Michael Hayden. Louisville has advanced to the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Championship five times in the last nine seasons, and has made the NCAA Tournament 11 of the last 12 seasons.

Louisville's 2019 schedule features seven teams ranked in the preseason poll, while four others received votes. The list of opponents included home matches against No. 8 Kentucky on Sept. 3, No. 16 Virginia Tech on Sept. 20, No. 13 Georgetown on Sept. 24, and No. 4 Wake Forest on Nov. 1. The Cardinals preseason training begins Monday, August 12. Louisville will compete in a trio of exhibition matches against Lipscomb on Aug. 16 at Dr. Mark and Cindy Lynn Stadium, No. 2 Indiana on Aug. 21 in Westfield, Indiana, and against UAB on Aug. 24 at Lynn Stadium. The Cardinals will kick off the 2019 season against Cleveland State on Aug. 30 at 7:30 p.m., inside Lynn Stadium.
