Joao De Lucca Wins Gold
 Three University of Louisville swimmers and a diver wrapped up competition at the Pan American Games in Lima, Peru as Joao De Lucca (Brazil), T.C. Smith (USA) , Marcelo Acosta (El Salvador), and Daniel Pinto (Peru) competed for their respective countries. UofL coach Kameron Chastain served as El Salvador's national coach.
In all, 419 events in 39 sports were contested in Lima, which was the largest number of medal events ever held at a single edition of the Pan American Games.

Almost all of the new events being contested at the 2020 Summer Olympic were already on the Pan-Am Games' program. The new event disciplines introduced for the 2020 Summer Olympics are also being added, including the 4 x 100m mixed medley relay, men's 800m and women's 1,500m in swimming. In addition, a 1m springboard discipline was added to diving.

Competing for Team Brazil in the 4x200 Freestyle Relay, Joao De Lucca won the gold medal with a combined time of 7:10.66, while De Lucca finished with a split of 1:48.62. The total time of Team Brazil set a Pan American games record for this event.

In the 10K open water, T.C. Smith took 11th place with a time of 1:57.27.6. Esteban Enderica of Ecuador, won this event with a time of 1:53:46.7.

In the 1500m freestyle, Marcelo Acosta took home fourth place competing for Team El Salvador with a time of 15:21.03. Guilherme Costa of Brazil won this event with a time of 15:09.93.

Diver Daniel Pinto placed across three events. Pinto placed 16th in the 1M Springboard with a score of 251.35. Yona Knight-Wisdom, of Jamaica, won this event with a score of 378.20. Finishing 18th in the 3M Springboard with a score of 321.60. Daniel Restrepo, of Colombia, won this event with a score of 468.10. Diving with Adrian Infante, finishing in 9th in the 3M Synchronized with a score of 331.29. Juan Manuel Celeya Hernandez and Yahel E. Castillo Huerta of Mexico won this event with a score of 429.81.
