
Harting Touches Sixth in 200M Fly; Comerford and Dahlia Win Silver

Michael Phelps 200M Fly World Record falls in FINA World Championships in Gwangju, Korea
University of Louisville swimmer Zach Harting finished sixth in the 200M butterfly in a race that shattered Michael Phelps long-standing world record at the FINA World Championships in Gwangju, Korea. Teammates Kelsi Worrell Dahlia and Mallory Comerford won silver as for swimming the preliminaries as part of the 4x100 mixed medley.
In Harting's race, South Africa's Chad le Clos blasted out from the start, posting 24.13 first split, and was still under world record pace at 100-meter mark, turning in 52.55. Top qualifier Kristof Milak was in hot pursuit and turned at a world record pace at the 150 at the 1:21.57, to take the lead.
Milak pulled away from the field and shattered Michael Phelps' World Record of 1:51.51 to board a time of 1:50.73. Japan's Daiya Saito won silver in 1:53.8 and on bronze in 1:54.15, edging Italy's Federico Burdisso, who touched 4th in 1:54.39.
Ukraine's Denys Kesil finished 5th in 1:54.79. Zach Harting finished sixth in 1:55.69. Brazilian Leonardo de Deus of Brazil was seventh with a time of 1:55.96, and the 2016 Olympic bronze medalist Tamas Kenderesi of Hungary, finished 8th in 1:57.10.
In the relay prelims, Americans Matt Grevers, Andrew Wilson, Kelsi Worrell Dahlia and Mallory Comerford put up the top qualifying time of 3:41.23Â in the 4x100 Mixed Medley Relay, putting up a time of 3:41.23. In the finals, Ryan Murphy, Lilly King, Caleb Dressel and Simone Manuel took silver in 3:39.10.
