Louisville Baseball Summer Update – July 24

The Cardinals have 19 student-athletes on summer ball assignments.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville baseball team has 19 student-athletes on summer ball assignments across five summer leagues and the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team.
Below are some of the highlights from July 17-23 games.
USA Baseball Collegiate National Team
Reid Detmers (Player Page)
W (2-0), 5 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 1 BB, 4 K
Detmers turned in another outstanding start for the USA CNT, blanking Japan over five innings in the third game of the international series. The southpaw closed out his summer with Team USA with a 0.69 ERA, allowing just one run in 13 innings with opponents hitting a measly .128 against him.
Cape Cod League
Jared Poland – Bourne Braves (Player Page)
.333 (6-for-18), 2B, 2 R
Poland had a good week at the plate for Bourne, picking up hits in four of five games including a 3-for-3 showing at Yarmouth-Dennis. Poland has his average up to .304 for the summer and also pitched a scoreless inning on July 20 against Wareham.
Zach Britton – Orleans Firebirds (Player Page)
.333 (4-for-12), HR, RBI, 2 R
Britton continued his excellent summer with four more hits in three games. Britton launched his third homer of the season on July 19 against Bourne and is now hitting .292 across 18 contests.
Glenn Albanese – Hyannis Harbor Hawks (Player Page)
4.2 IP, 1 ER, 4 H, 0 BB, 4 K
Albanese turned in his best start of the summer, allowing just one earned run in 4.2 innings of work on July 20 at Cotuit. The right-hander struck out four and surrendered just four hits as he took a no-decision in the 6-2 victory.
Northwoods League
Andrew Benefield – Madison Mallards (Player Page)
.300 (6-for-20), R, BB
Benefield added six more hits to his summer total, a season in which he holds a .305 batting average, nine home runs, 29 RBIs and a Northwoods League All-Star selection.
Trey Leonard – Waterloo Bucks (Player Page)
.278 (5-for-18), 2 2B, 11 R, 5 BB, 2 SB
Leonard has been all over the basepaths for Waterloo, scoring 11 runs in the last six games. Leonard has scored 18 runs in just 22 games during the summer.
Perfect Game League
Ben Metzinger – Albany Dutchmen (Player Page)
.313 (5-for-16), 2B, HR, 4 R, 4 RBI
Metzinger was named the Dutchmen Player of the Week as he is closing out the summer strong. Metzinger has a hit in five straight contests, including his second long ball of the season at Oneonta on July 18.
Chris Seng – Albany Dutchmen (Player Page)
.412 (7-for-17), 6 R, 2 RBI, 3 BB
Seng was on fire over the last seven days, picking up seven hits and scoring six times. Seng also set the Albany single-season stolen base record with his 29th of the summer on July 21 against Mohawk Valley.
