Cardinals in 13th After Day One of NCAA Regional

Louisville shot a 305 during Monday’s first round. Cards tee off at 9:06 a.m. Tuesday.
EAST LANSING, Mich. - The University of Louisville women's golf team kicked off the NCAA East Lansing Regional Tournament Monday (May 6), where the Cardinals carded a team score of 305 to finish the day in 13th place.

Hosted by Michigan State at the Forest Akers West Golf Course, the par-72 course is being played at 6,387 yards. Kent State leads after the first round with a team score of 6-under-par 282. Pimnipa Panthong also of Kent State holds a one-shot lead over the field with a 4-under-par 68.

"Today was certainly not the start we would have liked," head coach Courtney Trimble said. "There are two days of golf left and anything can happen. We stumbled down the finish today but played very solid the first 12 holes. We are looking forward to a new start tomorrow."
UofL is one shot back of LSU and three back of Augusta. The Cardinals finished the day one shot up on ACC rival North Carolina.

Lauren Hartlage paced Louisville with an even-par 72 to tie for 14th place. Hartlage, who started on the back nine, overcame a pair of early bogeys as she recorded three birdies on the round, coming on Nos. 3, 13, and 17. She finished the front nine bogey free with a 1-under-par 35.

Margot Bechadergue concluded her first day in a tie for 29th with a 2-over-par 74. She carded three birdies on her first nine holes, two of which came back-to-back on Nos. 17 and 18. Bechadergue was one of only three golfers on the day to record a birdie or better on the 389-yard, par-4 No. 18.

Hartlage and Bechadergue are tied for second among the field in par-5 scoring average, both finished 2-under-par for the day.

Mairead Martin recorded birdies on two of her first four holes, Nos. 11 and 13, as she is tied for 67th place with a 6-over-par 78.

Olivia Cason carded a birdie on the par-4, 390-yard No. 3, as she finished the round tied for 84th with an 81. Delaney Shah birdied her final hole of the day, No. 9, a 169-yard par-3, to record an 84 for the round and is tied for 93rd.
