Cardinals will host 12 total matches at Dr. Mark and Cindy Lynn Stadium; Season tickets on sale now
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Under the direction of first-year head coach John Michael Hayden, the University of Louisville men's soccer team released its 2019 schedule Friday, May 24. The lineup features 10 matches against 2018 NCAA Championship qualifiers, as well as two home exhibition matches and 10 regular season home contests at Dr. Mark and Cindy Lynn Stadium.
Â
The 2019 season will be the first under Hayden, who was named the head coach in December after serving as an assistant coach the previous three seasons for the Cardinals. UofL is coming off its third consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance, and 11th in the last 12 seasons, as the Cards earned the No. 4 national seed and won the program's first Atlantic Coast Conference Men's Soccer Championship.
Â
"We are extremely excited to officially release our 2019 schedule," Hayden said. "We believe each of our 2019 opponents will present us with a different set of challenges which will better prepare us for postseason competition. Our ultimate goal is to bring championships here to Louisville and this schedule will allow us to grow into what we believe can be the best team in the country"
Â
Coach Hayden has set up a challenging schedule for the Cards that includes six home matches against NCAA Qualifiers - Lipscomb, Kentucky, Virginia Tech, Georgetown, NC State, and Wake Forest. Season tickets for the 2019 campaign are on sale now and can be purchased here.
Â
Prior to opening the regular season, Louisville will play three preseason matches. The Cardinals host Lipscomb, who advanced to the NCAA Third Round, August 16 and close out the preseason at Lynn Stadium on August 24 against UAB. Between the pair of home contests, the Cards face off against College Cup Semi-Finalist Indiana August 21 in Westfield, Indiana.
Â
The Cardinals kick off the regular season with a home tilt against Cleveland State August 30. The annual Battle for the Bluegrass takes place September 3 against Kentucky to wrap up the first homestand of the season.
Â
The road portion of the 2019 schedule begins with three straight matches against Florida Atlantic (Sept. 6) and USF (Sept. 9), before beginning ACC play at Syracuse on Sept. 13.
Â
September concludes with three straight home matches against NCAA Championship qualifiers in Virginia Tech (Sept. 20), Georgetown (Sept. 24), and NC State (Sept. 27). The Cardinals begin the month of October with a home contest against Belmont (Oct. 1), before heading out to face NCAA qualifier and ACC foe Virginia (Oct. 4), and wrapping up the road trip against Clemson (Oct. 11).
Â
Three straight home games against Northern Kentucky (Oct. 15), Boston College (Oct. 18), and Temple (Oct. 22) precede the final match of the month. The Cards wrap up their road schedule with a rematch of the 2018 ACC Championship game at North Carolina on October 25.
Â
The regular season comes to a close when UofL hosts defending ACC Atlantic Division champion Wake Forest November 1.
