Chad Records Hat Trick, but Cards Fall to No. 5 North Carolina
April 06, 2019 | Women's Lacrosse
The Cardinals honored Tessa Chad, the lone senior, prior to the game.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Tessa Chad recorded a hat trick on her senior day, but University of Louisville women's lacrosse fell 17-6 to No. 5 North Carolina on Saturday afternoon at UofL Lacrosse Stadium.
With the loss, the Cardinals move to 4-10 overall and 0-5 in Atlantic Coast Conference play, while the Tar Heels improve the 10-3 and 3-2 in league play.
"I think it was a tale of two halves. North Carolina is a fantastic team, one of the top in the nation for a reason, and I think we respected them too much in the first half," said head coach Scott Teeter. "We talked about it at halftime, and then in the second half we came out and played our game. We made more plays in the second half, but unfortunately we respected them too much in the first half."
Louisville got its lone first half goal from Alex McNicholas and trailed 13-1 at halftime.
McNicholas also picked up two draw controls in the first half, giving her 100 in her first two seasons at Louisville.Â
Tessa Chad got into the act with an early goal in the second half and just over two minutes later Ally Hall made it two straight goals for Louisville.
Chad then scored twice in a little over a minute to give her three goals for the game and her ninth hat trick of the season.
"Tessa, I felt that in the first half, she pulled up on a couple opportunities to shoot the ball. In the second half, we had the ball more on offense and she found herself open. When she gets open, gets her hands free to shoot, she's going to score," added Teeter.
Louisville outscored North Carolina 5-4 and outshot them 17-9 in the second half, but fell 17-6.
McNicholas finished with a team-high six draw controls, giving her 104 for her career.
The Cardinals close their home schedule against Ohio State on Tuesday at 1 p.m. ET.
