Detmers Named NCBWA National Pitcher of the Month

The lefthander was 4-1 with a 0.98 ERA during the month of March.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The recognition continues to roll in for Louisville baseball starting pitcher Reid Detmers, as he was named the March National Pitcher of the Month by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.
Earlier this week, Detmers was named the Midseason National Pitcher of the Year by Perfect Game and the Midseason Top Pitcher by D1Baseball.
For the month of March, the lefthander went 4-1 with a 0.98 ERA. Detmers recorded 62 strikeouts in just 36.2 innings while walking only four batters.
The sophomore opened the month with a dominant start against James Madison, holding JMU hitless through the first seven innings and finishing the day with eight scoreless innings and 14 strikeouts. He followed it up with 7.2 scoreless frames in the conference opener against Boston College, tallying 13 more punchouts.
Detmers struck out nine and gave up a run over six innings of a road victory at Duke, then set a Jim Patterson Stadium record with 16 strikeouts in 7.2 innings against Georgia Tech. His final start of the month came last Friday versus Wake Forest, where he added his fourth win of March behind 10 strikeouts and one run allowed in 7.1 innings.
For the season, Detmers is 5-1 overall with an ACC-best 0.92 ERA. He also leads the conference and ranks second nationally with 76 strikeouts.
Detmers will take the ball on Friday night to open up the weekend series at Clemson. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m., ET at Doug Kingsmore Stadium.
