April 20, 2019 | Women's Golf
The Cardinals notched the program’s best finish in its five years of competing at the ACC Championship.
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Louisville women's golf team notched a fifth-place showing at the ACC Women's Golf Championship on Saturday. The tournament was played at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C.
The top-five finish was the best in the program's five-year history since joining the conference.
"I am proud of the way the team fought each round of this tournament to post a solid finish at ACC's," head coach Courtney Trimble said. "We proved to ourselves that our best is coming as we get into the postseason. We look forward to working hard the next two weeks in preparation for NCAA regionals and building on this week's solid play."
The Cardinals posted a score of 299 on Saturday to finish with a three-round total of 890. Eighth-ranked Wake Forest (850) captured the conference title, eight strokes ahead of No. 9 Florida State (858). Third-ranked Duke (868) took third, with No. 17 Virginia (870) finishing one spot ahead of the Cardinals.
Margot Bechadergue led the way for Louisville in her first conference championship experience. The sophomore shot 1-over par 73 in the final round to finish at 2-over par for the tournament. Her 218 total gave her a top-10 finish individually tied for 10th place overall. Bechadergue is just the second Louisville player to finish in the top 10 at the ACC Championship, joining Olivia Cason who tied for fourth in 2017.
Lauren Hartlage closed out the tournament with her seventh top-20 tally of the season, tying for 17th place after shooting 76 on Saturday. Mairead Martin turned in a 3-over par 75 in the final 18 holes to tie for 23rd in her first conference championship.
Olivia Cason closed out the tournament with a round of 77 to tie for 47th overall, while Delaney Shah tied for 50th after carding a 3-over 75 Saturday.
Louisville will now await its postseason draw, with the regional selections set to be announced on Wednesday. The NCAA regionals are scheduled for May 6-8.
