
Binelas Named ACC Player of the Week

The freshman hit .533 with five extra-base hits and seven RBI as the Cardinals went 4-0 on the week.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Following a perfect 4-0 week, Louisville baseball freshman Alex Binelas was selected as the ACC Player of the Week on Monday.
Binelas is the first Cardinal to earn conference Player of the Week status since Logan Wyatt did so on March 12, 2018. Florida State's Conor Grady was named the ACC Pitcher of the Week.
The Louisville offense had its best week of the season in a win over Northern Kentucky and three-game sweep at No. 2 North Carolina State. The Cardinals scored 45 runs on 56 hits in the four victories and moved to the top of the ACC standings.
Binelas was at the forefront of the offensive outburst, going 8-for-15 (.533) at the plate with four doubles, a home run and seven RBI. The freshman tallied seven of his eight hits in the sweep at NC State, with four going for extra bases.
The Oak Creek, Wis. native has been on a tear over the last month, hitting .357 during that stretch with five home runs and 15 RBI. On the season, Binelas holds a .293 average and leads the Cardinals in long balls and slugging percentage.
Louisville is back in action on Tuesday for the second edition of the Battle of the Bluegrass in 2019. The Cardinals head to Lexington to take on Kentucky, with first pitch scheduled for 6:30 p.m., ET.
