The sophomore is one of 40 players on the watch list for the 42nd Golden Spikes Award.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – University of Louisville sophomore Reid Detmers drew more recognition on Wednesday, as USA Baseball named him to the Golden Spikes Award midseason watch list.
The midseason watch list features 40 of the nation's top amateur players from the high school and college ranks. Presented in partnership with the Rod Dedeaux Foundation, the winner of the 42nd Golden Spikes Award will be announced on June 14.
Detmers is the 12th player in Louisville program history to appear on the midseason watch list and the first since Brendan McKay in 2017. McKay went on to win the Golden Spikes Award that season.
Since the inception of the midseason watch list in 2012, Louisville is tied for fourth nationally with the 12 players selected. Only the Cardinals and Oregon State have had at least one representative on the list in seven of the eight years.
Detmers has been one of the country's best pitchers through the first half of the season, already garnering the Perfect Game Midseason Pitcher of the Year and D1Baseball Midseason Top Pitcher honors. He was also named the National Pitcher of the Month for March by the NCBWA.
The Chatham, Ill., native is 5-2 on the season with a 1.65 ERA through eight starts. Detmers has tallied double digit strikeouts in six of his eight games and ranks second nationally with 86 punchouts on the season.
Detmers and the Cardinals head to Raleigh, N.C., this weekend to take on the second-ranked Wolfpack. First pitch on Friday night is scheduled for 6:30 p.m., ET at Doak Field.
