Detmers Earns Second Straight ACC Pitcher of the Week Honor
March 04, 2019 | Baseball
Detmers allowed just one hit in eight innings against James Madison on Friday.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – For the second consecutive week, University of Louisville sophomore Reid Detmers picked up ACC Pitcher of the Week laurels announced by the league on Monday.
Detmers is the co-Pitcher of the Week, sharing the award with Jared Shuster of Wake Forest. Weekly honorees for ACC baseball are selected by a vote of a media panel and announced on Mondays throughout the regular season.
Detmers is the first player to win ACC Pitcher of the Week honors in consecutive weeks since Tyler Holton of Florida State in May of 2017. Golden Spikes Award winner Brendan McKay also accomplished the feat in March of the same season.
The southpaw was dominant on the mound again Friday in the series opener against James Madison. One week after recording seven hitless innings against Brown, Detmers put seven more hitless innings on the board versus JMU before a leadoff single in the eighth snapped his streak of 14.2 innings without allowing a hit.
Detmers finished the night with just the one hit allowed over eight innings while piling up a career-high 14 strikeouts.
For the season, Detmers holds a 2-0 record with a 0.45 ERA and 28 strikeouts in 20 innings. His ERA ranks second in the ACC.
The Cardinals will take on Morehead State on Wednesday at 3:00 p.m., ET at Jim Patterson Stadium before opening up conference play at home against Boston College this weekend.
