
Louisville Hosts Delaware on Sunday Afternoon

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – University of Louisville women's lacrosse kicks off the first of three straight home games at UofL Lacrosse Stadium with a matchup against Delaware on Sunday at 12 p.m.

The Cardinals are 4-8 overall and 0-4 in ACC play and are coming off a hard-fought 17-16 loss to Virginia Tech, their third loss this season decided by just one goal.

Tessa Chad leads the Cards' offense with 39 goals on the season, which ranks fifth in the ACC. Against Virginia Tech, the senior scored a team-high six goals, marking her eighth hat trick of the season.

Shayla Scanlan and Ally Hall also recorded hat tricks in the Cards' loss to the Hokies, scoring four and three goals, respectively.

Freshman Maddie Birch ranks third in the ACC with 1.58 caused turnovers per game, while also ranking sixth with 2.25 ground balls per contest.

Louisville has turned the ball over less than its opponent in seven of 12 games this season, highlighted by a season low 11 turnovers against Virginia Tech.

The Blue Hens have averaged 11.2 goals per game through 10 contests and are led offensively by juniors Christine Long and Mia DeRuggiero. Long has tallied a team-high 32 goals and four assists for 36 points, while DeRuggiero adds nine goals and 37 assists for a team-high 46 points.

Senior Chantae Simms paces the Blue Hens with 28 ground balls and 26 caused turnovers, and Caroline Farley has won 52 draw controls on the season. In goal, Kate Brewster has collected 77 saves with a save percentage of .440.

Delaware was picked to finish fifth in the Colonial Athletic Association Preseason Poll, while Simms and DeRuggiero garnered All-CAA Preseason Team Honors. Simms was a member of the IWLCA Mid-Atlantic Region Second Team and earned All-CAA Second Team and CAA All-Tournament Team accolades a season ago.
