Louisville Women’s Golf 12th on Day One at Evans Derby Experience

The Cardinals posted a score of 14-over par 302 in Saturday’s first round.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville women's golf team sits in 12th place after the opening day of the Evans Derby Experience hosted by Auburn. The three-day tournament is being played at Saugahatchee Country Club in Opelika, Ala.
Louisville posted a team score of 14-over par 302 through the first 18 holes. Eighth-ranked Arkansas (285) holds a three-shot lead over seventh-ranked Florida (288). No. 2 Texas (290) and No. 13 Auburn (290) are tied for third, while No. 14 Kent State (292) rounds out the top five.
The loaded 14-team field features half of the top 10 in the latest Golfstat rankings and nine teams ranked among the top 20.
Lauren Hartlage had the top round of the day for the Cardinals, carding birdies on two of her final four holes to shoot 1-under par 71. The junior is tied for eighth overall, three shots off the pace.
Lauren Thibodeau also closed well, with birdies on 16 and 17 to finish with a 3-over 75 in a tie for 42nd. Olivia Cason is tied for 56th after shooting 77 on Saturday.
Linda Trockel and Mairead Martin rounded out the Louisville lineup on Saturday, firing rounds of 79 and 80, respectively.
Margot Bechadergue is playing as an individual in the tournament, carding four birdies on her way to a round of 74. She is tied for 30th heading into round two.
The tournament continues with the second round on Sunday. The Cardinals will be paired with Alabama and Baylor teeing off the 10th hole starting at 8:30 a.m. CT.
