
Louisville Plays at Virginia Tech on Saturday

The Cardinals continue ACC play with a trip to Blacksburg.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Louisville women's lacrosse travels to play Virginia Tech on Saturday at 1 p.m. ET.

The Cardinals are 4-7 overall and 0-3 in the ACC and are coming off of a 14-7 loss to No. 4 Syracuse on Sunday.

Freshman Maddie Birch ranks second in the ACC with 1.73 caused turnovers per game. She has tallied 19 through 11 contests, while also collecting 2.36 ground balls per game, which ranks seventh in the conference standings.

Fellow freshman Hannah Morris scored three straight goals in the final minutes against the Orange to record her first career hat trick. She has six goals on the season.

Louisville is seeking its first ACC win since defeating Syracuse, 9-8, at UofL Lacrosse Stadium on April 22, 2017. They are seeking their first road ACC win since winning at Virginia Tech, 13-12, in overtime on April 1, 2017.

Virginia Tech (7-4, 0-1 ACC) is currently riding a three game win streak, highlighted by a 15-14 upset victory over then-No. 13 Denver in overtime. The Hokies are averaging 16 goals per game and all four of their losses have come at the hands of ranked opponents. Sophomore midfielder Paige Petty leads the Virginia Tech offense with 41 goals and six assists for 47 points on the season. Fellow sophomore Emma Crooks has also been instrumental for the Hokies with 33 goals, five assists, and a team-high 52 draw controls. In goal, sophomore Morgan Berman has started all 11 contests for the Hokies and has registered 85 saves and a goals against average of 9.77.

Virginia Tech was selected third in the ACC Preseason Coaches Poll behind Boston College and North Carolina, their highest selection since joining the conference in 2004. Petty was selected to the Preseason All-ACC Team after earning All-American and All-ACC honors a season ago.
