The Cardinals will compete for a spot at the NCAA Championships in Austin, Texas.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville men's and women's diving team is slated to compete at the NCAA Zone C Diving Championships from Thursday to Saturday, where they will vie for spots at the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships in Austin, Texas.
The competition will take place in West Lafayette, Ind. at the Morgan J. Burke Aquatic Center, beginning with the men's 1-meter and women's 3-meter on Thursday at 1 p.m., followed by the men's 3-meter and the women's 1-meter on Friday at 1 p.m. The meet will conclude with the men's and women's platform on Saturday at 11 a.m.
The top-18 divers from both the 1-meter and 3-meter prelims will advance to the final round each day of competition, while the top-12 on platform will qualify for finals.
The Cardinals will be represented by Kivanc Gur, Daniel Pinto, Molly Fears, Anika Holland, Brianna Price and Michaela Sliney. Each diver will compete in all three events.
At the ACC Championships, the Cardinals combined for 123 points, the fourth-best diving total of the meet. Pinto led the way for the Louisville men with a sixth place finish on the 3-meter (322.10).
Fears leads the way for the women, returning to NCAA Zones as a two-time NCAA qualifier for the Cards. At ACCs, Fears finished third on the 3-meter, eighth on platform and 14th on 1-meter to score 61 individual points for Louisville. Sliney also qualified for finals at ACCs on the 3-meter, where she recorded a career-best eighth place finish.
For the men, the top-11 on the 1-meter and top-eight on the 3-meter and platform will earn an automatic berth to the NCAA Championships. The women must finish in the top-nine on the 1-meter, top-eight on the 3-meter and top-12 on platform to qualify.
Should a diver earn an automatic qualification in any of the three events, they will be eligible to compete in the remaining two events at NCAAs as long as they finish in the top-12 at Zones.
The Cardinals will be joined by representatives from 23 schools across Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan and Ohio.
Following the NCAA Zone C Championships, qualifying women will prepare for the NCAA Championships, which is set to begin on March 20 in Austin, Texas.
