Cardinals Send McHenry, Roe, and Dilfer to US Collegiate National Team Tryouts

Cards head to Colorado Springs in March
University of Louisville volleyball players Melanie McHenry, Piper Roe and Tori Dilfer have been invited to try out for USA Volleyball's Collegiate National Team. Tryouts will take place at U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado March 1-3.

The U.S. Women's National Team will hold its open tryouts with 218 competing this coming weekend at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs. Along with potential spots on the U.S. Women's National Team, players with remaining collegiate eligibility will vie for berths to the U.S. Collegiate National Team program.Last year, Cardinals Molly Sauer and Amanda Green represented the USA in China and Croatia respectively.

AVCA HM All-American Melanie McHenry, who earned First Team All-ACC honors and All-East Region Honorable Mention, was the workhorse for the Cardinals on offense with 884 total attacks for 366 kills. She was second on team in digs with 237 and had 37 total blocks. Despite drawing attention from opponent blocking, she was in double digit kills in all but four matches. She joined 1000 Career Kill Club. She had 15 + kills in 16 matches with season high 22 vs Syracuse and had three aces in three different matches. As the UofLpoint leader with 408.5, she was named Preseason All-ACC.

Piper Roe earned a starting slot at middle blocker for the Cardinals and ended up playing 59 sets and notching 86 kills. She hit .362 and amassed 43 blocks for the Cardinals who made their 27th NCAA appearance last December. The Cards beat Eastern Michigan but fell to Illinois in the second round.

Dilfer, who played her first two seasons at TCU, is from San Jose, Calif., and played her prep career at Valley Christian. She played in all 27 matches and all 102 sets during the 2018 season, led the team with 1,134 assists and 11.12 assists per set and scored 10 double-doubles on the year. Â She scored 40+ assists in 17 matches and 50+ assists in seven matches.Â

Last summer, UofL head coach Dani Busboom Kelly took the US Collegiate National Team – Europe to the gold medal in Pula, Croatia.
