
Louisville Hosts Vanderbilt on Wednesday

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Looking to build on the momentum from the 20-2 victory over Mercer, University of Louisville lacrosse returns to UofL Lacrosse Stadium on Wednesday at 1 p.m. for a matchup against Vanderbilt.

Against Mercer, the Cardinals' (1-3) 18-goal margin marked the biggest win for UofL since they won 23-2 at Cincinnati on April 6, 2014.

Three Cardinals recorded hat tricks against the Bears, including Tessa Chad and Shayla Scanlan with five goals apiece and Caroline Blalock with three.

Last season at Vanderbilt, Louisville jumped out to a 6-1 lead in the first 12 minutes and held on to a 10-7 lead at the half. The Commodores pulled within two on four different occasions and scored the final four goals of the game, but the Cards were able to withstand each of the runs to seal a 17-15 victory.

Ally Hall was Louisville's leading scorer last year against Vanderbilt with four goals.

Vanderbilt (3-0) opened its season with three straight victories for the second consecutive year. In their wins over Wagner, Kennesaw State and Furman, the Commodores have averaged 18 goals per game for an average margin of victory of 10.3 goals.

Sophomore Sophie Furlong leads the Commodores' attack with 11 goals and two assists for 13 points. Fellow sophomore Gabrielle Fornia and freshman Brianne Gross have also been strong contributors for Vanderbilt with 10 points through three games.

In goal, Lily Argyle has tallied 13 saves for a save percentage of .464.

Vanderbilt was picked to finish second in the American Athletic Conference Coaches Preseason Poll and returns seven starters from last year's squad that finished 8-9, including All BIG-EAST selections Julie Blaze and Emily Matthewson.Â
