Cardinals Send 12 to Finals after Day 4 Prelims at ACCs

Comerford seeks her third individual gold of the meet
The Cardinals made the most of their morning of the final day of preliminaries at the 2019 ACC Swimming and Diving Championships, sending 12 to the finals Saturday night at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.

In the first event of the day, Alina Kendzior earned a second swim in the 200 back with a time of 1:54.50. for the B-Final. Â Ashlyn Schoof will be back tonight in the C-final with a time of 1:57.55.

Mallory Comerford put up the fastest qualifying time in the 100 freestyle with a 47.48, to be the top seed in the A-final. Lainey Visscher made the A-final as well with a prelim time of 48.53. Arina Openysheva gained the B-final tonight with a 48.78 Avery Braunecker will join her in the B-final as she earned a second swim tonight with a 49.74. In that same heat, Casey Fanz will be back tonight with a 48.95. Other swims included  Nastja Govejsek's 50.09 in her preliminary heat.

Morgan Friesen put up the second fastest qualifying time in the 200 breaststroke to make the A-final along with teammate Mariia Astashkina, who put up a 2:11.23. Senior Lauren James will be back tonight in the B-final with a 2:13.43. Â Kaylee Wheeler will be back in the finals in the 200 breast with a 2:15.65 to make the C-finals. Diana Dunn posted a 2:16.66 in her qualifying heat of the 200 breaststroke.

Grace Oglesby threw down a 1:54.64 to be the top seed in the 200 butterfly going into this evening. She's almost a second ahead of the runnerup. Alena Kraus put up the third fastest qualifying time in with a 1:55.69, a time fast enough to get invited in 2018 to put her in the A-final as well. Maria Sumida put up a 1:59.66 to make the B-final and Carley Lowe earned a second swim with a 2:00.29 for the C-final.

The 1650 is a timed final with UofL's Sophie Cattermole doing the honors in the final heat.

In 1M diving, Michaela Sliney posted up a 257.90 to finish 11th, Molly Fears scored a 256.10 for 14th and  Anika Holland had a 184.00 for 36th.
