Cardinals Open Spring Season with 4-1 Victory over SIUE

Cherif Dieye scores two goals in closed scrimmage
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – University of Louisville men's soccer opened its spring season this evening in a closed scrimmage against SIU Edwardsville. The Cardinals defeated the Cougars, 4-1, in 90 minutes of play at the Trager Center.
Junior midfielder Cherif Dieye scored two of Louisville's goals in the scrimmage, with the first opening the scoring in the 32nd minute, with the second coming in the 63rd minute. Sophomore midfielder Elijah Amo's goal in the 48th minute and sophomore forward Izaiah Jennings' score in the 52nd minute rounded out the scorers for the Cardinals.
Each of the three Cardinals goalkeepers saw action during the match. Redshirt sophomore Will Meyer and sophomore William Howard each recorded a save during their period-long outings.
Next up, the Cardinals take on Louisville City FC in the 502 Derby on Saturday, March 2 at 5:02 p.m. at Dr. Mark and Cindy Lynn Stadium.
