Aiko Jones leads with career-high 20 kills
CORAL GABLES, Fla. -- Aiko Jones had a career-high 20 kills, with two aces and five blocks to lead the University of Louisville volleyball team to a 3-2 win over Miami Friday night in Coral Gables.

UofL moves to 16-7 and 9-4 in the ACC with the 25-16, 25-27, 25-21, 22-25, 17-15 win. UofL hit .237 with 14 blocks, six aces and had three players in double digit kills. Claire Chaussee had 19 kills and three blocks with Amber Stivrins pitching in 12 kills and two blocks. Tori Dilfer had 57 assists and nine digs. Alexis Hamilton had a match-high 17 digs. The Canes move to 9-12, and 5-8 and hit .161 with 12 blocks and nine aces. Kennedy Prince led UM with 14 kills and an ace.

Louisville used an 8-1 run and .385 hitting to put the Hurricanes down early as the Cards took a 12-7 lead in the first set. Miami rallied with a 4-0 run of their own to come within one at 12-11 but were outscored 13-5 down the stretch as the Cardinals won 25-16. UofL got five kills from Aiko Jones and Anna Stevenson added two blocks.

In the second set that saw 11 ties and three lead changes, UofL fell behind 11-5 early but then went on a 7-1 run powered by three kills by Aiko Jones and four Cane errors to tie at 12. Miami called timeout after two straight kills by Aiko Jones. The team traded points down the stretch ties at 21, 22, 23, 24 and 25 until kills by Elizaveta Lukianova and Kennedy Prince tipped the set to the Canes 27-25.

UofL tore out to a 13-4 lead early in the third set and then shut down a 4-0 run by Miami with three straight points to keep the lead at 16-9. The Cardinals had to call timeout after another 4-0 run by the Canes which closed the gap to three at 17-14. The Cards went up 21-16 on an ace by Akela Yuhl and forced Miami to burn its final timeout. The Cards got to set point on a Cane missed serve and then Aiko Jones got a kill for the 25-21 win.Â

UofL led Miami scoot out to an 8-3 lead early in the fourth and then had to play catch-up for much of the set. The Cards came within two at 18-16 on a kill by Aiko Jones that forced a Hurricane timeout. UM scored three straight out of the break before UofL went on a 5-0 run to come within two at 23-21 on two straight kills from Claire Chaussee. Miami held Louisville at bay, getting set point on a kill by Kennedy Prince and finally scoring set point on a service ace by the Cards.

The Cards had a slender lead early in the fifth set when they used a 4-0 run to go up 10-8. Miami scored twice to tie at 10 and the teams began to trade points. Up 13-12, on a block by Amaya Tillman, two straight Cardinal hitting errors gave Miami set and match point. The Cards recovered and Claire Chaussee had two of the final three kills as the Cards won 17-15.
