Cardinals Fall to Boston College

Aiko Jones has 18 kills and three aces
BOSTON, Mass. -- Aiko Jones had 18 kills , three aces and four blocks it was not enough as the University of Louisville volleyball team fell 3-2 at Boston College Friday night in Boston.
UofL moves to 15-6 and 8-3 in the ACC. The Cardinals hit .267 with 11 aces, 15 blocks and 60 digs. Freshman Amber Stivrins had 14 kills and 12 digs and Claire Chaussee added 11 kills and three blocks. Boston College moves to 17-7 on the season and 8-3 in the league. The Eagles were paced by Amaka Chukwujekwu's 14 kills and six blocks.

In the first set, Boston College was not able to overcome .441 hitting by the Cardinals. The Cards had a 15-10 lead at the media timeout and then ran off three straight coming out of the break, with two of the points coming on Amber Stivrins' kills. Up 20-12, Boston College ran off four straight and sparked a Cardinal timeout as the Eagles come withoin four at 20-16. Boston College would score just twice more as the Cardinals took the set 25-18. Aiko Jones had seven kills and Stivrins had six, hitting .857 for the set.

In the second sent, BC ran out to a 12-6 lead and forced a UofL timeout. The Cards pushed back with a 6-2 run to come within one at 15-14. The two opponents then traded points down the stretch with eight ties. An Amaya Tillman kill gave UofL set point at 25-24 but a service error by Shannon Shields tied it back up. BC blocked the Cards two straight times for the 28-26 win.

In the third set UofL never led and .250 hitting by the Eagles made it difficult to rally although they Cards did tie six times. Tied at 23 on a block by Emily Scott, BC took timeout. BC's Clare Naughton had a kill and then an ace by Jewel Strawberry gave the 25-23 win to the Eagles. BC had four blocks and three aces in the set.Â

The Cards used .250 hitting with six blocks and four aces to bulldoze Boston College in the fourth set. Louisville was up 17-8 when the Eagles burned their last timeout and the Cards continued to roll to the 25-13 win.

In the fifth set, UofL had to use a timeout early as Boston College took an early 6-3 lead. The Cards were unable to break the Eagles' momentum and had to call timeout trailing 9-5. Amaya Tillman had a kill to come within three but the Cards would score just three more points before falling 15-8.

Louisville heads to Syracuse for a matchup with the Orange on Sunday, Nov. 4 at 1 p.m.
