Cardinals fall for the second time this season
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- The 12th-ranked Cardinals could not overcome a three-goal deficit on Thursday night, falling to No. 1 Virginia 3-0 on the road in conference play. The Cardinals drop to 11-2-2 on the season and 4-2-2 in the ACC while the Cavaliers remain unbeaten at  13-0-3 overall and 5-0-3 in league play.

It was back-and-forth between the Cardinals and the Cavaliers to start the first half.  Louisville had some good looks at the net in the early minutes. Louisville's best opportunity came in the 14th minute with a shot from Brooklynn Rivers. Two minutes later Ravin Alexander had a shot go just wide.  Â
The lone goal of the first half was scored by Meghan McCool, giving Virginia an early lead in the 22nd minute.  After the goal was scored, the Cavaliers controlled possession for the rest of the half and the Cardinals could not get any pressure on the offensive end.  Â
At the half, Virginia held a 7-2 shot advantage. Both teams finished the half with two corner kicks. Both keepers finished with one save each.Â

Virginia doubled their advantage in the 57th minute after a goal from McCool, her second of the match. With seconds left in the match, the Cavaliers' Sydney Zandi found the back of the net for a 3-0 win.Â
The Cavaliers finished the match with a 17-2 shot advantage and a 4-2 corner kick advantage.  Between the posts, Kouzelos concluded the game with five saves, tying her season-high. UVA keeper Laurel Ivory finished with one save.

The Cardinals continue conference play on the road at Miami on Sunday, Oct. 27. The match is set for a noon kickoff.
