No. 14 Cardinals Play No. 9 Duke to a 1-1 Draw

Brooklynn Rivers scores her fourth goal of the year
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The 14th-ranked University of Louisville women's soccer team battled No. 9 Duke to a 1-1 tie on Friday night at Lynn Stadium. The Cardinals move to 11-1-2 on the season and 4-1-2 in ACC play while the Blue Devils move to 7-1-6 on the year and 2-0-5 in conference action.
The Blue Devils got on the board first in the 11th minute after a foul was called on Louisville in the box. Ella Stevens converted the penalty kick, sending the ball into the lower right corner of the net.
The Cardinals found the equalizer in the 54th minute when a long pass by Emina Ekic from the center line connected with Brooklynn Rivers down the left side. Holding off a pair of Blue Devil defenders, Rivers fired a shot into the upper right corner of the net for her fourth goal of the season.
Louisville's collective defense held Duke without a shot in the second half. At the end of regulation, the Cardinals held a 15-2 advantage in shots over the Blue Devils while leading them 6-2 in corner kicks.
The Cardinals continued pressing in both overtime periods, out-shooting the Blue Devils 4-1 during the extra 20 minutes. Despite a number of scoring chances, Louisville could not get past Duke goalkeeper Brooke Heinsohn, who concluded the match with seven saves.
Rivers led the team with six shots, followed by Jessica De Filippo who tallied four. Gabby Kouzelos recorded two saves between the posts.
The Cardinals travel to Charlottesville on Thursday, Oct. 24 to take on No. 1 Virginia for a 7 p.m. match at Kloöckner Stadium.
