
Cardinals Set for Northwestern, Kentucky

The No. 8/16 Cardinals host Northwestern on Friday for Senior Day and travel to Lexington to take on Kentucky on Saturday.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Coming off a pair of victories over ranked opponents, the University of Louisville men's and women's swimming and diving teams return to action this weekend with dual meets against Northwestern and Kentucky. The Cards will welcome Northwestern to the Ralph Wright Natatorium on Friday at 2 p.m., followed by a trip to Lexington on Saturday for the Battle of the Bluegrass at 1 p.m.
Friday's meet will serve as Senior Day for 10 Cardinals, including Marcelo Acosta, Abel Aulbach, Sophie Cattermole, Mallory Comerford, Daniel Fecteau, Zach Harting, Alina Kendzior, Mate Kovacs, Gracie Long and Emily Moser. The celebration will begin at approximately 1:40 p.m. prior to the start of the meet.
About the Cardinals
Last time out, the No. 8 Louisville men picked up a 178-122 win over then-ranked No. 17 Missouri, taking the top spot in all but three events. Acosta (500/1000 free), Harting (100/200 fly), Evgenii Somov (100/200 breast) and newcomer Bartosz Piszczorowicz (100/200 free) each won both of their individual events to lead the Cardinals to victory.
The No. 16 Louisville women defeated then-ranked No. 19 Missouri 163-137, led by double event wins from Cattermole (500/1000 free), Kendzior (100/200 back) and Mariia Astashkina (100/200 breast).
The Cardinals also have a strong presence in the top-10 national rankings, led by Comerford with the third-ranked times in the 100 (46.96) and 200 free (1:42.79), No. 6 time in the 100 fly (50.94) and No. 7 time in the 50 free (21.88). In the butterfly events, Grace Oglesby holds the fourth-ranked times in both the 100 (50.75) and 200 (1:52.64) distances. All five of Louisville's relays rank among the top-10 led by the No. 4 400 medley relay (3:30.55).
About Northwestern
The Northwestern men are coming off a pair of hard-fought losses against Wisconsin and Iowa. Sophomore DJ Huang was the Wildcats' top performer, recording a victory in the 1000 free (9:13.96) and a second place finish in the 500 free (4:28.89).
On the women's side, No. 23 Northwestern split the tri-meet, beating Iowa 178-122 and falling to then-ranked No. 16 Wisconsin 166.5-133.5. Sophie Angus (100/200 breast) and Olivia Rosendahl (1-meter/3-meter) each swept their individual events to lead the Wildcats.
About Kentucky
In their latest outing, the Kentucky men were defeated by then-ranked No. 5 Florida and No. 14 Ohio State, while the No. 10 women beat then-No. 22 Ohio State and fell to then-No. 10 Florida. Freshman Mason Wilby led the Kentucky men with an impressive win in the 200 fly (1:46.11), while Asia Seidt and Geena Freriks each registered five wins apiece through the two day tri-meet.
Seidt leads the Wildcats with three times ranked in the top-10. The junior owns the No. 2 spot in the 200 back (1:49.35), No. 4 time in the 200 IM (1:54.37) and No. 5 time in the 100 back (51.25). Fellow junior Ali Galyer is just behind Seidt in the 200 back with the third-ranked time of 1:51.29.
