LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville women's golf team heads to the Minnesota Invitational for the second year in a row to open its season, participating in the two-day event in Woodbury that starts on Monday.
The 15-team tournament is being played on the par-72, 6,479-yard course at the Prestwick Golf Club. The Cardinals are joined by two teams that finished last year ranked in Golfstat's top 50: No. 21 Oklahoma and No. 47 Notre Dame.
Competition is slated to begin at 8:40 a.m. ET, and Louisville is paired with Oklahoma and Missouri.
The Cardinals are coming off of one of their most successful seasons in school history that culminated with the program's second trip to the NCAA Championship. Last year, Louisville secured three team titles and earned their highest finish at an NCAA Regional Championship, placing fourth in San Francisco.
Louisville, which was tabbed No. 22 in Golfweek's preseason top 30, returns four golfers from last year's NCAA Championship lineup. The Cardinals are the highest team in the poll at the Minnesota event.
Two-time all-ACC honoree Lauren Hartlage highlights the five-player lineup, followed by Olivia Cason, Kristin Engle, Mairead Martin, and Margot Bechadergue. Lauren Thibodeau is playing as an individual.
Hartlage, a Golfweek honorable mention All-American, last season set the school's single-season record with 20 rounds even or below par and produced the program's second-best stroke average for a season at 72.24.
Cason is the lone senior on the squad and enters her final campaign with a 74.88 career average, eighth best in school history. Engle, a sophomore, played in all 13 events her freshman season, registering the fourth-best average on the team. Her classmate, Bechadergue competed in five events.
Both of Louisville's freshmen, Martin and Thibodeau, are making their collegiate debuts this weekend. Martin was a heralded recruit from Ireland, the ninth-ranked amateur in the country, while Thibodeau was a highly decorated golfer from New Hampshire who won four state titles.
