Cardinals Conclude Summer, Return to Campus

Six Louisville players were honored as all-league or all-star selections in 2018
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville baseball team is back on campus following a busy summer of action in wooden bat leagues around the nation. Following the program's seventh straight NCAA Regional title game appearance during the 2018 collegiate season, the Cardinals had 23 players assigned to seven leagues this summer.
Listed below are notes and highlights from the summer performances for the Cardinals. The highlights include six Cardinals earning individual recognition as all-league or all-star selections. First baseman Logan Wyatt was named to the All-Cape Cod League team. Pitcher Reid Detmers was selected as a Cape Cod All-Star and was named as a co-MVP of the game, while pitcher/outfielder Adam Elliott was also tabbed as a Cape Cod All-Star. Infielder Cameron Masterman was named First Team All-League in the Perfect Game League and was an All-Star, while utility player Lucas Dunn was a Second Team All-League honoree and an All-Star selection. In the Northwoods League, outfielder Drew Campbell was an All-Star selection.
Since returning to campus for the fall semester, which kicked off Monday, Louisville players have participated in team meetings, a conditioning test and individual workouts. Louisville's fall scrimmage schedule will begin Sept. 7-8 while a complete list of key fall dates will be announced next week.

CAPE COD LEAGUE NOTES
• First baseman Logan Wyatt was an All-Cape Cod League honoree after hitting .305 with four home runs, 18 RBIs, 29 walks and 20 runs scored in 40 games for the Orleans Firebirds. Wyatt led the league in walks and was second in on-base percentage.
• Lefthanded pitcher Reid Detmers was co-MVP of the Cape Cod League All-Star Game after registering two strikeouts in a perfect inning of relief. Overall, Detmers had 35 strikeouts and 1.45 ERA in 32.1 innings and eight total appearances on the mound for the Brewster Whitecaps.
• Lefty pitcher and outfielder Adam Elliott was named as a Cape Cod All-Star during a strong summer with the Hyannis Harbor Hawks. He had a 0.60 ERA with 11 strikeouts and one save in 10 appearances and 15.0 innings on the mound.
• Infielder Tyler Fitzgerald closed the summer with a .298 batting average, two home runs, 14 doubles, 20 RBIs and 28 runs scored in 43 games for the Bourne Braves.
• Righthanded pitcher Shay Smiddy had a 3.96 ERA, 1.60 WHIP and 24 strikeouts in 15 appearances and 25.0 innings pitched for the Orleans Firebirds.
• Righty Michael McAvene totaled 14 strikeouts and a 3.97 ERA in 11 appearances and 11.1 innings of relief.

• Outfielder Drew Campbell was a Northwoods League All-Star while closing his summer with a .327 batting average, nine doubles, 14 RBIs and 20 runs scored in 38 games for the Madison Mallards.
• Outfielder Trey Leonard had a .307 batting average, two home runs, 12 doubles, 29 RBIs, 40 runs scored and 21 stolen bases in 68 games for the Waterloo Bucks.
• Outfielder Ethan Stringer registered a .290 average, 17 RBIs, 17 walks and 29 runs in 50 games for the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters.

• Utility player Lucas Dunn was a Second Team All-Perfect Game League honoree and an All-Star selection while hitting .325 with 18 RBIs, 27 walks, 18 stolen bases and 32 runs scored in 35 games for the Albany Dutchmen.
• Infielder Cameron Masterman was named First Team All-Perfect Game League and was an All-Star after finishing with a .351 batting average, two home runs, 30 RBIs and 24 runs scored in 38 games for the Albany Dutchmen.
