Turner scores game-winning goal, signs letter of intent as a future Cardinal
LOUISVILLE, Ky. -Â Thursday proved to be a special day at Dr. Mark and Cindy Lynn Stadium as the Louisville men's soccer team spent the afternoon with David Turner for a Match Day Experience with the Cardinals.
David is a six-year-old Louisville native who was recently diagnosed with Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG), an inoperable tumor on the brain. A fan of the Cardinals, David and his parents joined the men's soccer team for an all-access experience on the field and inside the training center at Lynn Stadium. The activities included a pregame talk in the lockerroom, walking to the field through the team tunnel, a penalty kick shootout, a postgame celebration and a news conference with the media.
Â
The penalty kick shootout ended with David scoring the game-winning goal to lift the Red Team to a 3-2 victory over the White Team. Following a team photo on the field, David met with the media and accepted an offer from Lolla to sign a letter of intent as a future Cardinal. The day concluded with David receiving a visit from Louie, the Cardinals mascot.Â
