Hensley picks up her second straight victory in the circle and drives in two runs
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Junior Megan Hensley drove in two runs and got the win in the circle to help the University of Louisville softball team defeat Boston College 3-2 and clinch an ACC series Saturday afternoon at Ulmer Stadium. The teams will meet again Sunday at 12 p.m. for the series finale as the Cardinals (30-17, 9-10 ACC) host their annual Pink Game to support breast cancer research and awareness.
Â
"I was really proud of my team today," said UofL head coach Sandy Pearsall. "Especially Megan Hensley because that's a lot of innings for her to throw, but it's also because of what our team did behind her. The offense and the defense all came through today, and I'm really proud of them. It's Senior Day, and it's a great way to send our seniors out."
Â
Louisville jumped on the scoreboard early with a run in the first inning. Junior Sidney Melton led off with a single and stole second base. Freshman Maddy Newman followed with a hit, moved to second when Melton was called out at the plate trying to score. Hensley's fielder's choice saw Newman out. An error send Hensley home to give Louisville a 1-0 lead.
Â
Boston College (26-20, 11-8) answered with a pair of unearned runs in the fifth when Lexi DiEmmanuele reached on an error, stole second and crossed the plate on Annie Murphy's base hit. CC Cook's RBI single sent Murphy home to put the Eagles on top 2-1.
Â
The Cards put up a two-spot of their own to regain the lead in the home half of the fifth. Sidney Melton reached on a hit and stole second. Freshman Maddy Newman's third hit of the game placed runners on the corners with one out for Hensley who connected on a two-run single to push Louisville ahead 3-2.
Â
