Cards drop the second game of an ACC series 8-0 at Florida State
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The University of Louisville softball team fell 8-0 to No. 8/10 Florida State Sunday at JoAnne Graf Field. The teams will wrap up the series Monday at 7 p.m.

The Seminoles (38-8, 15-2 ACC) jumped ahead in the first inning when consecutive one-out walks to Carsyn Gordon, Sydney Sherrill and Jessie Warren loaded the bases for Elizabeth Mason's RBI fielder's choice.

FSU used two hits and two walks to plate three more runs – all with two outs in the second. Zoe Casas was hit by a pitch and Gordon walked to set up Sydney Sherrill's RBI double. Jessie Warren's two-run single brought the score to 4-0.

The fourth inning brought two more Seminole runs when Mason's two-out, two-run home run extended the lead to 6-0.

Florida State tacked on the final two runs of the game behind Gordon's two-run single in the fifth. Back-to-back walks to Korina Rosario and Mackenzie Puckett put two on and a passed ball moved both into scoring position for Gordon's base hit.

Sidney Melton and Maddy Newman each had a hit and the Cardinals (28-16, 7-9 ACC) stranded four runners in the shutout. Danielle Watson (14-8) took the loss after giving up eight runs, seven earned, on six hits with one strikeout in 4.1 innings.
The loss marks the first time the Cardinals have been shutout in back-to-back games wins April 4, 2015 when Virginia Tech swept a doubleheader with scores of 2-0 in each game.

Meghan King (14-5) picked up the win, holding Louisville scoreless and scattering two hits while fanning seven in 5.0 innings. Mason finished the game with three RBIs.
