Comerford Wins 100 Freestyle on Second Day at Mesa

Three Cardinals posted top-three finishes.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. –The University of Louisville men's and women's swimming team qualified 12 swims into the A final and posted three top-three finishes on the second day of competition at the TYR Pro Swim Series in Mesa, Ariz., highlighted by Mallory Comerford's victory in the 100M freestyle.
Sophie Cattermole kicked off the evening for the Cards with a fifth place finish in the 800M free, touching the wall in a time of 8:51.54. In the men's event, Marcelo Acosta placed fourth with an 8:04.24, and T.C. Smith took 11th in a time of 8:26.31.
In the 100M back, Nicolas Albiero won the B final by over a full second to finish ninth in a time of 56.07. Nikkos Sofianidis recorded a seventh place finish in the A final, dropping a half second from his morning swim for a time of 56.70.
Kelsi Dahlia followed up last night's win in the 100 fly with a silver medal performance in the 200M fly (2:11.48). Grace Oglesby also competed in the A final, finishing eighth in a 2:18.69. In the men's 200M fly, Zach Harting and Daniel Sos both competed in the A final, finishing fifth and seventh with times of 2:01.40 and 2:04.00 respectively. T.C. Smith dropped over two seconds from his morning swim to take 10th in the event (2:07.12).
In the 100M breast, Morgan Friesen registered a 14th place showing with a 1:12.78. Carlos Claverie took seventh in the men's 100M breast in a close A final with a time of 1:01.53, where the second through seventh place finishers were separated by less than a half second.
Mallory Comerford earned the Cardinals' second win of the meet, coming from behind in the final 15 meters of the 100M free to out-touch Margo Geer in a time of 54.30. In the men's event, Andrej Barna stopped the clock in a time of 51.01 for fifth place.
Daniel Sos turned in a bronze medal performance in the 200M IM with a time of 2:04.34, while Carlos Claverie touched sixth (2:05.42).
The Cards return to the pool tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. PST for the prelims of the 400M free, 50M fly, 50M back, 50M breast, and 50M free. Fans can catch all the action live on usaswimming.org.
