Cardinals Draw with UAB in Spring Exhibition

Schmitt scores second half goal for Louisville in Saturday's 1-1 draw with the Blazers
"We had a bit of a sluggish first half, maybe a bit of a hangover from our Chicago Fire game," said Cardinals head coach Ken Lolla. "We were just slow getting into it today, which UAB caught us on late in the first half, but we responded really well in the second half. I thought in the second half we did a really good job of keeping the ball, of pressing, and dominating the game."
Philip Makinde opened the scoring for the match, sending a shot past Will Meyer in the 39th minute to send the Blazers into the locker room at the half with a one goal lead.
The Cardinals found their response to the Blazer's goal in the 60th minute, when Tate Schmitt connected on a pass from Cherif Dieye to tie the score at one a piece. Despite outshooting the Blazers 8-4, the UAB keeper made one final save to keep the Cardinals from tying.
Will Meyer and Jake Gelnovatch each tallied a save in match for Louisville. Gelnovatch kept the Blazers scoreless in the final 45 minutes of the contest.
Up next, the Louisville men's soccer team will continue its spring exhibition schedule at home against Evansville on Saturday, April 7 at 6 p.m., ET before concluding against Lindsey Wilson on Saturday, April 14 at 7 p.m., at Lynn Stadium.

Through this early bird discount offer, reserved chairback tickets are priced at $90 for adults, $288 for the Family Four Pack ($72 per ticket) and $72 for faculty/staff. General admission/berm seating is priced at $45 for adults as well as faculty/staff.
Following the early bird discount deadline, ticket sales will continue with regular pricing on Feb. 23. Reserved chairback tickets are priced at $100 for adults, $320 for the Family Four Pack and $80 for faculty/staff. General admission/berm seating is priced at $50 for adults, $200 for the Family Four Pack and $50 for faculty/staff.
Season tickets packages include all UofL men's and women's soccer regular season matches at Dr. Mark and Cindy Lynn Stadium. The 2018 schedules for the Louisville men's and women's soccer teams will be announced in the spring.
