Jennings scores second half goal for the Cardinals, who competed against alumni Daniel Johnson and Stefan Cleveland
CHICAGO - Rising sophomore Izaiah Jennings scored a second half goal for the Louisville men's soccer team but the Cardinals were unable to hold off a late charge by the Chicago Fire dropping a 3-1 decision in Saturday's closed-door scrimmage at Toyota Park.
After the teams played to scoreless opening 45 minutes, Louisville was the first to find the scoring column when Jennings delivered his goal in the 78th minute. The Cardinals held that lead for seven minutes before the Fire erupted for a trio goals in a span of three minutes.
Jon Bakero pulled Chicago even with his goal in the 85th minute before Elliott Collier gave the Fire a 2-1 advantage in the 87th minute. Louisville soccer alumnus and Chicago midfielder Daniel Johnson added the final goal of the match in the 88th minute.
Along with competing on the pitch Saturday, the Cardinals players and coaches visited after the match with Johnson and fellow Louisville alumnus Stefan Cleveland, a goalkeeper for the Cardinals in 2016 and a current member of the Fire.
Up next, the Louisville men's soccer team will continue its spring exhibition schedule with a trio of home matches over the next three weeks. The Cardinals will host UAB at Dr. Mark and Cindy Lynn Stadium on Saturday at 2 p.m., ET. The homestand will continue against Evansville on Saturday, April 7 at 6 p.m., before concluding against Lindsey Wilson on Saturday, April 14 at 7 p.m., at Lynn Stadium.
