
Men's Swimming Finishes Ninth at NCAA Championships

Cards tie program best-ever finish
The University of Louisville men's swimming team finished ninth as a team after the final day of racing at the 2018 NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center on the campus of the University of Minnesota.

The Cardinals finished ninth, tying their all-time best team finish. Texas took top honors (449), the Longhorns' fourth-straight title, followed by Cal (437.5), Indiana (422), NC State (385), Florida (347), USC (253), Stanford (205), Michigan (168.5), Louisville (156)  and Georgia (129) to round out the top ten.

Marcelo Acosta earns All American honors with a fifth place finish in the 1650 freestyle. The event was won by NC State's Anton Ipsen, who put up a 14:24.43, five seconds ahead of the field.

Carlos Claverie was second in the B-finals of the 200 breaststroke with a time of 1:52.86.  The event was won by Indiana's Ian Finnerty who set a pool record in a time of 1:50.17.

Nick Albiero won the B-final of the 200 butterfly with a 1:40.85, lowering his own National Age Group record for the second time in one day and set a school record in the process. Zach Harting finished 5th in the B-final of the 200 butterfly with a 1:41.81. The national championship was won by NC State's Andreas Vazaios with a pool record of 1:38.60.Â

In the final event, the 400 free relay, the Cards finished seventh when Nicolas Albiero (43.17), Andrej Barna (42.46), Zach Harting (42.27) and Matyi Kovacs (43.26) put up a 2:51.16. The A-final was won by NC State foursome of Ryan Held (41.05), Justin Ress (40.62), Jacob Molacek (41.02) and Coleman Stewart (41.62), who clocked in at 2:44.31 to break their own American and NCAA records, which they set during today's prelims. Â
