Cardinals travel to Virginia for ACC Tournament Action
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- The Cardinals are making their first ACC Tournament appearance on Sunday as they face No. 11 Virginia in quarterfinal rounds. Â Louisville earned the sixth seed in the tournament after finishing the regular season with an overall record of 12-5 and an ACC record of 6-4. Â Louisville finished tied for fifth in league standings with Clemson, who earned the fifth seed through the goal differential tie-break. Â

Junior forward Brooklynn Rivers leads the Cardinals' offense with eight goals and six assists for 22 points. Whitsett is Louisville's top goal-scorer with nine on the season plus two assists for 20 points. Emina Ekic rounds out the leading-scorers with six goals.Â

Redshirt sophomore Gabby Kouzelos has started all 16 matches in goal for the Cardinals, registering 29 saves and a goals against average of 0.94. Senior Gabrielle Vincent anchors the Cardinals' defense at centerback.Â

Head coach Karen Ferguson-Dayes is in her 19th season with the Cardinals. She has led Louisville to four NCAA tournament appearances, including a Sweet 16 appearance in 2011.
SCOUTING VIRGINIA
No. 11 Virginia (14-3-0, 7-3-0 ACC) defeated NC State 2-1 at Klöckner Stadium to close out the regular season on Thursday night. Â Second-half goals from Lizzy Sieracki and Meghan McCool lifted Virginia to the win after the match was scoreless at the half.Â

The Cavaliers have scored 44 goals this season, with four different players accounting for 23 of them. Goalkeeper Laurel Ivory has compiled a  0.50 goals-against average and 13-3 record, while the team has earned eight shutouts on the year.

Head coach Steve Swanson picked up his 400th career victory on Thursday night against NC State. Swanson is the 11th coach all-time at the NCAA Division 1 level to hit the 400-win mark and is one of only eight active coaches at the Division 1 level to have 400 career wins.

Sunday's match marks the sixth meeting between the Cardinals and the Cavaliers. Virginia has won five straight over Louisville, including a 1-0 win over the Cards in Lynn Stadium on Oct. 4
