No. 17 Louisville Closes Regular Season at No. 1 Wake Forest

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -Â The No. 17 Louisville men's soccer team closes the regular season with a road clash against No. 1 Wake Forest on Friday at 7 p.m., ET at Spry Stadium. The match will be will be televised on ACC Network Extra, while live stats will be available at GoCards.com.
ABOUT THE CARDINALS
Ranked 17th in this week's United Soccer Coaches Top 25, Louisville enters Friday's match with an 8-3-3 record after Saturday's 1-0 double-overtime win against Clemson. The Cardinals are second in the ACC Atlantic and third overall in the league with 14 points and a 4-1-2 mark. The top four teams in the conference earn a first round bye and a second round home game in the ACC Championship. Louisville will clinch a top four seed with a win or a tie against the Demon Deacons. The Cardinals can also register a top four seed even with a loss at Wake if Duke loses or draws at Virginia Tech or if Virginia loses or draws at North Carolina.Â
Cherif Dieye, Tate Schmitt and Adam Wilson lead the Cardinals with four goals each this season, while Schmitt also has a team-high six assists. Geoffrey Dee has three goals and Elijah Amo has scored two goals. Sophomore goalkeeper Jake Gelnovatch has started 10 of 14 matches this season registering four shutouts overall and a 0.93 goals against average.
The Cardinals produced another successful season in 2017 reaching the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Championship for the fifth time in the last eight seasons, including the second straight year, and earning a No. 7 ranking in the final United Soccer Coaches Top 25.

Ranked No. 1 in the United Soccer Coaches poll, Wake Forest enters Friday's match at 15-1-0 overall and 6-1-0 in the ACC following Saturday's 3-2 win at Virginia. The Demon Deacons clinched their fourth straight ACC Atlantic Division title. Last season, Wake Forest was 19-2-2 overall and 7-0-1 in the ACC before ending its season with a loss to Stanford in the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Championship.

A native of Phoenix, Arizona, Schmitt has 25 career goals, including 10 game-winners, and 14 total assists in 74 collegiate matches. This season, the two-time All-ACC Academic Team member leads the team with his four goals and five assists while starting all 13 matches for the 10th-ranked Cardinals. Last season, he was an All-ACC Second Team honoree and was a United Soccer Coaches All-South Region Third Team selection after tallying a team-leading nine goals to go with three assists.
The finalists were chosen by a selection committee from the list of 30 men's candidates and 30 women's candidates announced in September. Nationwide fan voting begins immediately to help select the winner, and fans are encouraged to vote on the Senior CLASS Award website through November 18, 2018.
