Cards drop a hard fought match to the Seminoles
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville women's soccer team could not overcome an early deficit Thursday night, falling to Florida State 2-0 at Lynn Stadium. The Cardinals drop to 6-4-0 on the season, 0-2-0 in ACC play, while Florida State improves to 6-2-0 overall, 1-1-0 in ACC play.

"I'm super proud," said head coach Karen Ferguson-Dayes of her team's performance. "I thought we were really good defensively, I thought we really good offensively. We fought with a belief. We played with a belief. We played with confidence and composure. We were locked in defensively. We were locked in offensively. Tonight we played very well against an excellent team."

The Cardinals dominated the early minutes of the first half, taking the first two shots of the game within two minutes. Arianna Ferraro took the first shot of the game in the 13th minute, followed by a shot sent just wide by Emina Ekic in the 15th minute.

The Seminoles struck first in the 19th minute, scoring off a deflection to take the 1-0 advantage. Florida State took a 2-0 lead, scoring off a free kick just outside the box in the 27th minute.

The Cardinal offense came out in the second half and immediately applied pressure to the Seminole's defense. Keeping possession for the majority of the half. The pressure paid off in the 69th minute when Ekic scored off a free kick just outside the box, cutting the lead to 2-1.Â

The Cardinals continued to create opportunities but could not find the back of the net, dropping a heartbreaker to the Seminoles.Â

Despite being outshot 5-4 in the first half, the Cardinals finished the match tied with nine shots each. Florida State held a 4-3 edge in corner kicks.   Gabby Kouzelos finished the match with four saves while FSU's Cassie Miller finished with three saves. Â

Louisville will be back in action Sunday afternoon as they host Miami at 1:00pm at Lynn Stadium.
