New staff, new arena, new players highlight changes at Cardinal Volleyball
Dani Busboom Kelly and her Cardinal Volleyball team hit the ground running as preseason practice is in full swing. The Cardinals and their new coach took time out to talk to the press at the 2017 Fall Sports Press Conference.Â
"We are humble and hungry and we all have something to prove," said Dani Busboom Kelly, UofL head coach. "The staff and the players -- all have something to prove and we will make sure our fans are proud of us."
The Cardinals will play their entire season in a totally revamped Cardinal Arena, with a scrimmage coming up Aug. 19th at 6 p.m. UofL begins its season on the road at the ACC/Big Ten Challenge against two top ten teams in Minnesota and Wisconsin.Â
The Cardinals open the season with two of the most competitive teams on the schedule when they travel to Madison, Wis. for the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. The Cardinals and the Tar Heels of North Carolina will represent the ACC and face Minnesota and Wisconsin. UofL faces Wisconsin on Aug. 25. The Badgers fell in the regional final to eventual 2016 national champion Stanford. Then the Cards face Minnesota on Aug. 26. The Gophers made the national semi-finals before also falling to Stanford.
Â
The Cardinals will unveil a newly updated Cardinal Arena that will include end zone balconies, Teraflex court, new chair back seating, updated lobby and cosmetic upgrades to the lockerroom, team room and office space. Western Kentucky will christen the first home match in the Arena when the Hilltoppers and UofL face off in the Cardinal Classic on Sept. 1. Illinois and Kent State are the other teams making up the field.Â
