Wolf has 0.93 ERA this summer for Chatham; Stowers named Cape Cod Player of the Week

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Since capping its season in Omaha after the program's fourth College World Series appearance, the focus for the University of Louisville baseball team has turned to its preparations for the 2018 season. The Cardinals, which capped 2017 ranked No. 5 in the nation in every postseason poll, have 24 players assigned to six wooden bat leagues around this nation this summer and here are some highlights through July 26.

CAPE COD LEAGUE NOTES
• Lefthander Adam Wolf has been dominant in his seven relief appearances this summer for the Chatham Anglers registering a 0.93 ERA, 1-0 record and two saves. The rising junior has 17 strikeouts and just three walks in 9.2 innings of work.
• Outfielder Josh Stowers was named as the Cape Cod League on July 19 after connecting for nine hits in 20 at-bats (.450 average), including one home run and two doubles, with eight RBIs, six runs scored, five walks and four stolen bases in the week prior to the announcement. The rising junior is 11-for-11 on stolen bases with 10 RBIs, 14 runs scored and a .250 batting average in 19 games with the Chatham Anglers.
• In six relief outings this summer for the Brewster Whitecaps, righthander Sam Bordner has a 1.92 ERA and 10 strikeouts in 9.1 innings pitched.
• Righthander Bryan Hoeing has 11 strikeouts in 8.2 innings of relief with the Bourne Braves while accumulating a 1-1 record and a 3.11 ERA in his four appearances out of the bullpen this summer.
• Infielder Tyler Fitzgerald connected for his first home run of the summer and drove in three runs to cap a 2-for-3 night at the plate in a July 19 win for the Bourne Braves.

NEW ENGLAND LEAGUE NOTES
• Righthander Shay Smiddy delivered his best outing of the summer registering a season-high eight strikeouts and allowing just one run in 5.2 innings in his first start for the Newport Gulls on July 23. The rising sophomore has a 2.57 ERA with 20 strikeouts in 14.0 innings and seven total appearances.
• First baseman Logan Wyatt was 3-for-5 with a double and four RBI in a July 23 win for the Sanford Mainers. The rising sophomore has a .262 batting average with four doubles and seven RBI in 19 games this summer.
• During 30 games with the Keene Swamp Bats, outfielder Ethan Stringer connected for a pair of home runs, added 15 RBIs, scored 15 runs and earned nine walks while batting .241 overall.

NORTHWOODS LEAGUE NOTES
• Righthander Matthew McCarty earned his second win of the summer and improved to 2-2 overall with the Madison Mallards after allowing just two runs on three hits in five innings on July 26.
• Righty Hunter Sullivan has registered a decision in six of his eight outings this summer with the Rochester Honkers accumulating a 4-2 record overall. In 31.1 innings pitched, including six starts, he has 27 strikeouts and a 4.02 ERA.

PERFECT GAME LEAGUE NOTES
• Lefthanded pitcher and outfielder Adam Elliott has continued his busy summer with the Albany Dutchmen working both on the mound and as a hitter. The rising sophomore has a 2-0 record with a 0.69 ERA and 13 strikeouts in 13.0 innings pitched and five total relief appearances. At the plate, Elliott has a .273 batting average with a double, two triples, seven RBI and 11 runs scored in 15 games.

LOUISVILLE BASEBALL SUMMER OVERVIEW
The Cardinals have 24 underclassmen assigned to six different wooden bat leagues this summer, including eight in the Cape Cod League. Following the completion of the collegiate summer season, Louisville players will return to campus for the fall semester in late August to continue preparations for 2018.
