Stowers, Wolf key Tuesday’s win for Chatham; Hoeing twirls three dominant innings in victory for Bourne
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Since closing its season in Omaha following the program's fourth College World Series appearance, the University of Louisville program has turned its focus on preparing for the 2018 season with a busy summer schedule. The Cardinals, which capped 2017 ranked No. 5 in the nation in every postseason poll, have 24 players assigned to six wooden bat leagues around this nation this summer and here are some highlights through July 11.
CAPE COD LEAGUE NOTES
- Outfielder Josh Stowers was 2-for-3 with a home run and four RBI in Tuesday's win for the Chatham Anglers. Through eight games this summer, Stowers has a .267 batting average with six runs scored.
- Lefthander Adam Wolf made his second relief outing of the summer Tuesday registering five strikeouts in 2.2 innings to earn the win for the Chatham Anglers. Overall, Wolf has a 2.45 ERA in his two appearances in the Cape Cod League.
- Righthander Bryan Hoeing earned his first victory of the summer twirling three innings of no-hit, shutout relief and ringing up four strikeouts in Monday's victory for the Bourne Braves. In his two relief outings thus far, has a 1-0 record with a 1.80 ERA and six strikeouts in 5.0 innings.
- Righthander Sam Bordner has not allowed an earned run in four relief outings and 6.2 innings of work for the Brewster Whitecaps while accumulating nine strikeouts overall.
NEW ENGLAND LEAGUE NOTES
- Outfielder Ethan Stringer has a .301 batting average, two home runs and 14 RBIs in 20 games this summer for the Keene Swamp Bats.
- Righthander Shay Smiddy has registered seven strikeouts and a 2.07 ERA in three relief outings and 4.1 innings of work for the Newport Gulls.
NORTHWOODS LEAGUE NOTES
- Through six games this summer with the Rochester Honkers, catcher Zeke Pinkham has a .400 batting average with five RBIs, 10 runs scored and seven walks.
- In 10 games for the Madison Mallards, infielder Jake Snider hit .395 with three doubles, 11 runs scored, six walks and two RBIs.
PERFECT GAME LEAGUE NOTES
- Lefthanded pitcher and outfielder Adam Elliott has been a busy player this summer for the Albany Dutchmen. The rising sophomore has two scoreless relief appearances on the mound with three strikeouts in 4.2 innings while also hitting .350 with a double, two triples, five RBIs and 10 runs scored in seven games at the plate.
CHICAGO SUBURBAN LEAGUE NOTES
- Catcher Pat Rumoro has played in four games for the Lombard Orioles accumulating a .300 batting average with two doubles and three RBIs.
LOUISVILLE BASEBALL SUMMER OVERVIEW
The Cardinals have 24 underclassmen assigned to six different wooden bat leagues this summer, including eight in the Cape Cod League. Following the completion of the collegiate summer season, Louisville players will return to campus for the fall semester in late August to continue preparations for 2018.
