
Swimming Sends Seven Into Finals at World Championship Trials

Day 2 saw the flyers come to the forefront for the Cards
The University of Louisville will send seven swimmers to the finals tonight after Wednesday morning's prelims at at the 2017 U.S. Nationals & World Championship Trials which began today with competition ending on  Saturday, July 1 at the  IU Natatorium on the campus of IUPUI.
This meet will serve as the selection event for the USA National Teams competing at the 2017 FINA World Championships in Budapest, Hungary, the 2017 World University Games in Chinese Taipei, and the 2017 FINA World Junior Championships.

ACC Swimmer of the Year, NCAA Champion and National Champion Mallory Comerford and NCAA Champion, Olympic Gold Medalist Kelsi Worrell each earned a spot in the A-finals of their events. Andrea Cottrell, ACC Scholar Athlete of the Year, also made an A final.

The Cardinals will also send Grace Oglesby and Nick Albiero to C-finals in their events. Hannah Magnuson and Zach Harting each earned a slot in the B-finals for second swims.

In the 200M freestyle, Mallory Comerford qualified fifth with a time of 1:58.39. Zach Harting put up a 1:50.01 in the 200M free to make the B-final with teammate Trevor Carroll going 1:50.42 for 28th and Sam Steele posted a 1:51.81 in the same event.

ACC Champion Andrea Cottrell qualified fourth with a time of 2:26.11 in the 200M Breast to make the A-final. Teammate Rachael Bradford Feldman went 2:31.21. On the men's side, Todd Owen touched in 2:16.39 in the 200M Breast for 22nd, Keegan Foulke put up a 2:18.47 and Jonathan Zoucha swam a 2:20.70.Â

In the 200M backstroke, Sofie Underdahl had a time of 2:16.16. On the men's side, Nick Albiero boarded a 2:02.58.

Kelsi Worrell took the top seed in the 50 fly with a 25.78, the only qualifier under 26 seconds. She is toying with the American Record and leaving the field in her wake with almost a second's worth of cushion to the runner up. Fellow Cardinal Hannah Magnuson put up a 27.05 and made the B-final for tonight. Grace Oglesby clocked in at 27.27 and Lainey Visscher went 27.90 to round out the Cards in that event.

Zach Harting in a 3-way tie for 14th in the 50M Fly with a 24.36, making the B final. Nick Albiero's 24.80 put him in the C-final for a second swim.
