Cardinals Announce 2017 Kickin' It with JT & Friends
June 02, 2017 | Men's Soccer
Registration for the seventh annual event is now open
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - University of Louisville men's soccer head coach Ken Lolla and the Cardinals will host the seventh annual "Kickin' it with JT and Friends" free soccer clinic for children and adults with special needs on Saturday, July 22 at Mockingbird Valley Sports Complex. Registration is set for 1 p.m., ET, and the clinic begins at 1:30 p.m.
The event celebrates the gifts of participants with special needs while promoting physical, mental and social development through the vehicle of soccer. The event is named for and inspired by JT, a special young man, an avid soccer camp participant and the nephew of Coach Lolla.Â
"We are very excited about the opportunity to host this clinic for our friends in the special needs community," Lolla said. "The interest in the event continues to grow each year and with participants and volunteers sharing in a very special day."
The clinic is directed by the Louisville men's soccer staff along with players from the team and over 100 volunteers. The clinic includes the teaching of fundamentals and drills but expands to creative activities tailored to participants. A highlight for participants is traveling down the "celebration tunnel" and having their name announced over the loud speaker by celebrity guest Emcee Howie Lindsey. Watch a video recap of last year's event here.Â
The men's soccer team was recognized as the 2015-16 recipient of the ACC Game Changer award for their outstanding work in the special needs community. The award recognized the Cardinals' service work out of over 300 sports programs in the ACC. Learn more about the team's work here.
All participants and volunteers will receive a free t-shirt and pizza. Limited spots are available. Register a participant, sign-up to volunteer and donate to the experience at www.jtandfriends.org. For more information, contact David Horne at david@gocards.com or 502-852-7619.
