Cardinals conduct 90-minute practice on Saturday afternoon at Bellevue East High School
OMAHA, Neb. - The University of Louisville baseball team concluded its preparations for Sunday's College World Series opener against Texas A&M with a Saturday afternoon practice session at Bellevue East High School.
The Cardinals (52-10), who are making their fourth CWS appearance all-time and their third in the last five seasons, conducted a 90-minute workout under sunny skies in their final workout ahead of the first ever meeting with the Aggies (41-21). First pitch for Louisville and Texas A&M is set for Sunday at 2 p.m., ET/1 p.m., CT at TD Ameritrade Park Omaha and the game will be televised on ESPN. The Cardinals will start junior lefty Brendan McKay on the mound against junior righty Corbin Martin for the Aggies.
Prior to Saturday's practice session, the Louisville baseball team played a significant role in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association's annual awards news conference inside the interview room at TD Ameritrade Park Omaha. The Cardinals won two of the four awards presented on Saturday morning as McKay was honored as the 31st recipient of the Dick Howser Trophy and junior righthander Lincoln Henzman was introduced as the Stopper of the Year award winner. McKay was the first Louisville player to win the prestigious Dick Howser Trophy, while Henzman became the program's second Stopper of the Year joining Nick Burdi, who earned the honor in 2014.
Louisville and Texas A&M are joined in one side of the CWS bracket by No. 3 Florida (47-18) and No. 6 TCU (47-16), while No. 1 Oregon State (54-4), Cal State Fullerton (39-22), No. 4 LSU (48-17) and Florida State (45-21) complete the field of eight teams.
