Women's Golf's Hartlage Voted ACC Freshman of the Year

Lauren Hartlage is the second golfer in program history to be named a conference freshman of the year.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Lauren Hartlage enjoyed one of the best seasons in recent Louisville women's golf history – and it was only her first with the Cardinals.
The Elizabethtown, Ky., native on Thursday was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Freshman of the Year in a vote by the league's 12 head coaches. Hartlage, who also was selected to the 15-member all-ACC team, is the second golfer in program history to earn the conference distinction.
“Lauren had an incredible freshman year, so I am thrilled for her to receive this honor against many other great freshmen in the ACC,” head coach Courtney Trimble said. “She is the epitome of a student-athlete. She has a 4.0 GPA and is driven to be one of the best players in the country. She had a huge effect on our team this year and has pushed her teammates to become better. This is only the beginning for Lauren, and we are excited for what the future holds for her and our team.”
Hartlage capped her freshman season with a team-leading 73.50 stroke average, a mark that ranks sixth best in a season in program history. She set the school's freshman record, with 14 rounds even or below par – a mark that is third best among all UofL golfers since 2005.
Playing in all 12 events this season, she logged five top-10 finishes. Her nine top-20 showings are tied for the second most in a season in program history. Notably, she contributed 100 percent of her rounds to the team's score.
The 5-foot-5 golfer put together plenty of solid performances during the year. In only her third collegiate tournament, she shot a 7-under-par 209 at the Cougar Invitational for the best three-round score by a freshman in school history. She came close to securing her first collegiate victory, when she placed second out of an 86-player field at the Hurricane Invitational, with a 4-under-par 212.
The only other conference freshman of the year was Cindy LaCrosse, who earned the award in 2006 in the BIG EAST. LaCrosse, a current member of the LPGA Tour, finished her career at Louisville as a four-time all-conference selection.
